Preamble: No Trespassing

This short video is the Preamble to the video installation, 'No Trespassing.'

The archival footage of Gil Scott-Heron (R.I.P.) is from Episode 306 of the award winning series, The 90's. This episode is called, "Race and Racism - Red, White and Black," by Skip Blumberg.

The installation revolves around the modern day ruins of Saint Agnes Hospital, operating for over fifty years as one of the only African American hospitals in the southeast, before closing in 1961.

Below is an image of the hospital before it began to deteriorate:

Resident Tourist

This video was conceived as a looping video installation, to be viewed on the streets of downtown Raleigh as part of the Home/Journeys exhibit for the Block Gallery, curated by Niell Prewitt. The piece visually compares the streets of Raleigh to those of China (specifically Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shen Yang, and Tianjinn).

Women and Children First

Women and children first is a protocol used in marine disasters, most famously the sinking RMS Titanic. The desperate saying suggests that men have a better chance of surviving a coming catastrophe than women. It is by no small coincidence that Shaun Richards chose this motto as the title for his newest exhibition which opened at Flanders Gallery in 2009. This is a trailer for that show.

The Bain Project

Letterpressed poster designed by SomethingPressed.

The Bain Project was a site-specific art installation exploring Raleigh’s historic E.B. Bain Waterworks. On view throughout Bain were installations and performances of 12 artists who worked collaboratively in the space for 9 months. The building and the accompanying temporary art was open to the public on two consecutive weekends in May 2009.

Find out more about it here: The Bain Project

This is a short excerpt from the silent 17 min piece, that was part of my installation at Bain, see pictures below.
